Chipko Movement Of Bishnoi Year. The chipko movement was started in the northern himalayan segment of uttar pradesh, the area that is well known as uttarakhand. The bishnois may be considered as india’s first environmentalists.
This was one of the major environmental movement of india. As of 2019, there are an estimated 960,000 followers of vishnoi sect residing in north and central india. The word ‘chipko’ means ‘embrace’, as the villagers hugged the trees that prevented the loggers from cutting them.
