Instead of a zipper, i used velcro strips and sewed them to the hemmed back of the cushion cover. A really easy solution for an uncomfy chair, without reupholstering it and adding lots of padding, is to make a removable diy chair. I used the hook side of the velcro to attach to the top back of the chair frame.
I used the dimensions i wanted my cushion to be (25 1/2″ by 15″) to draw an outline of the cushion on the wrong side of my fabric.
